Freelance travel and lifestyle writer living and working in Mexico City

Contribute travel and lifestyle articles to the following publications, among others: Wallpaper (UK), Monocle (UK), High Life (British Airways inflight magazine), The New York Times travel section, Conde Nast Traveler website, Escala (AeroMexico inflight magazine), Platino (Mexico), Alaska Airlines inflight magazine, Emirates Woman (UAE), The Miami Herald (Mexico Edition), The News (Mexico) and Inside Mexico.

I do a monthly slot on Radio New Zealand on cultural, quirky and current happenings in Mexico (see radio section).

Worked as a fixer for a BBC radio crew during the 2006 Mexican presidential election.

The role involved assigning, editing, compiling and writing for this monthly English-language magazine, which covers business, economics and culture in Mexico; as well as recruiting and dealing with freelancers.

January -July 2004:
Travelling in Latin America
I wanted to spend some time getting to know the region and improving my Spanish in a range of situations and countries, with the eventual aim of finding full-time employment in a Spanish-speaking country.

Sept-December 2003:
Volunteer PR officer for British youth development charity Raleigh International
in Costa Rica and Nicaragua    
This role included responsibility for generating press coverage about Raleigh´s community, environmental and development projects in the region. Also organised major corporate fundraising event at the British embassy in Managua, aimed at generating resources to allow young Nicaraguans to participate in future expeditions. Compiled and edited expedition magazine.

January - August 2003:
Studied Spanish at the Instituto Cervantes, London and in Spain
I also spent time taking photography classes and a creative writing course.

INTERESTS
Awarded rowing blue after coxing for Oxford. Travel and languages are a passion – I have travelled widely including in Asia, parts of the Middle East and the former Soviet Union and Latin America. I have also spent most of my life living outside Britain. I write short stories, am a keen amateur photographer and enjoy outdoor pursuits such as trekking, diving and running.
